Joint Replacement
Center

The demand for joint replacements has increased in recent years due to the increase in the population of older adults, as well as early diagnoses of osteoarthritis and advances in technology to perform such replacements.

For this, we have an area specialized in joint replacements that is responsible for providing specific treatment to patients with joint bone wear and hip fractures, through personalized and comprehensive care, before, during and after the surgical process, so that the patient can safely and effectively return to their daily activities.

These processes have follow-up, evaluation, and feedback in a committee of experts in order to obtain the best clinical results.

Main conditions:

Hip Fracture

Hip fracture is a break in the femur bone. The elderly and people with osteoporosis are at high risk for this type of fracture due to the fragility of their bones, for which a minor trauma or a fall may be enough to cause the injury. In contrast, most hip fractures in people with normal bones are the result of strong impacts (such as traffic accidents). In general, the symptoms of hip rupture are inability to walk and intense pain when moving the affected lower limb, which shortens and rotates outward. Treatment usually goes through surgery, which uses different types of techniques such as nails, plates, and full or partial dentures.

Hip Osteoarthritis

Hip osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of the cartilage that lines the junction of the pelvic bones and the femur. This tissue facilitates movement between the bones and prevents them from rubbing against each other. When the cartilage decreases in thickness and texture or disappears, the correct interlocking between the femur and the pelvis is lost, which causes hip osteoarthritis. The main indicator of this pathology is pain, which is located mainly in the groin region. Hip osteoarthritis is a chronic disease (lifelong) and, in general, it tends to progress very slowly over the years. Treatment consists of rehabilitation exercises, but in the most severe cases a surgical operation may be chosen.

Hip and Pelvis Surgery

It is the surgery that is done to repair a break or injury in the upper part of the thigh bone. This bone is called the femur. Surgery varies depending on the location of the injury, for example if it is in the femoral neck you may need hip pinning. Likewise, if it is an injury to most of the hip, it may require a prosthesis. After the surgery, it will require a 3 to 5 days rest and to fully recover from this intervention it requires 3 to 4 months to a year.

Knee osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis is the wear of the cartilage that covers the bones of the joint (femur, tibia, fibula, and patella). It is the part of the skeleton that most frequently suffers from osteoarthritis since it supports the weight of the body and the weight of the objects that we carry when we are standing or when we move. The cartilage serves to avoid the friction of the bones in the movements of the knee, facilitating its gliding and cushioning the blows.

Wear and tear over the years and the aging of cartilage is what causes osteoarthritis. The main symptom of the patient with knee osteoarthritis is pain.

Treatment includes a rehabilitation exercise program and a series of drug treatments that help relieve symptoms of the disease. In addition, in obese patients it is necessary to follow a diet to lose weight.

Knee prosthesis

The knee prosthesis is the replacement of the joint by a piece of synthetic material through a surgical intervention, indicated in cases in which the joint is severely damaged by osteoarthritis. Knee replacement is indicated when the degree of deterioration of the knee and the pain it generates prevent the patient from walking. These types of implants are reproductions of the bones that make up the knee, made of various metals and plastic materials that promote flexion and extension of the joint. For patients allergic to metal alloys there is the titanium knee replacement. Generally, a patient who has had a knee replacement implanted can go to work within three to six months.

Shoulder and elbow

Shoulder injuries are among the most common in both work and sports life. We are interested in studying these injuries in detail and detecting your risk activities that could cause or favor their appearance or aggravate their evolution, placing special emphasis on timely treatment and periodic health surveillance, as well as the best surgical treatment if you require it.
